"FAQ" - How does it work?

How do I determine the expected repurchase value of my old equipment?

Each participant in the Trade-In programme can determine the repurchase value of their old equipment online at dell.trade-in-platform.com by declaring the Product Data and Product Condition.

Who can take part in the Trade-In programme?

This programme is aimed at private DELL customers in the United Kingdom. You must be of legal age and be the owner of the old equipment that is being traded in. Business customers or customers from the public sector can get more information about the DELL Value Recovery programme from their DELL contact, or from their DELL Service Partner. Information about DELL and its commitment to environmental protection can be found on the following website:
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/emea/topics/services/recycle_program?c=eu&l=en&s=gen

I don't live in the United Kingdom, can I also take part in the Trade-In programme?

You can only participate in the Trade-In programme if your place of residence/pick-up address is in the United Kingdom. The compensation can also only be transferred to a English bank account.

Must I have purchased new equipment from DELL in advance?

Participation in this programme does not require the purchase of new DELL products.

How do I receive a possible refund for my old equipment?

The determined Trade-In amount is transferred electronically from Dataserv to the participant within 30 days of receiving the old equipment. Payments can only be made to a bank account in the United Kingdom.

Which equipment is accepted in the Trade-In?

Dataserv accepts functional PCs (towers/desktops) and notebooks from any manufacturer. If you wish to return CRT monitors or faulty or obsolete equipment with no market value, you can have it recycled with DELL. Further information can be found at:
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/emea/topics/services/recycle_program?c=eu&l=en&s=gen

What happens with the data on my hard drive?

Dataserv accepts absolutely no responsibility for lost or confidential data and software. Is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that back-up copies are made of all data on the system to be recycled or resold and that they are kept with the customer. Deletion of all confidential data and information which is subject to applicable data protection legislation, and are possibly stored on the product, is the responsibility of the customer.

Are returns of old equipment limited?

The programme is solely for the return of old equipment, and is limited to common household quantities.

What does the Trade-In programme involve?

A Trade-In promotion offers the end consumer the possibility of selling second-hand equipment to the manufacturer.

How does Dataserv determine the value of my old equipment?

Equipment with a possible resale value is examined for functionality, completeness and other conditions. Equipment that does not pass the functionality and visual test are brought to recycling. Should the equipment received differ from that specified, Dataserv is entitled to deduct the difference in value. Should the old equipment not arrive with Dataserv within 30 days, Dataserv reserve the right to cancel the order.

Can I follow the status of my process?

Yes, as soon as the information is entered and stored on the website, you receive the access details by e-mail. Thus the status is always available to you by means of the automatically assigned reference number. You can therefore pause your input and re-register and resume input on the system at a later time. At the same time, you receive automatic e-mails as soon as the status of your process changes, for example if Dataserv confirm receipt and a credit note is prepared.

How does my old equipment reach Dataserv?

You receive a prepaid forwarding label from Dataserv. Kindly stick it visibly on the parcel for shipping. The customer must guarantee that the equipment is safely packaged for transport according to packaging instructions you receive in the welcome guide. You can then drop the parcel at your nearest post office and send it to us free of charge.

Can I reclaim my old equipment?

Provided that the refund amount ascertained online is higher than the actual value of your equipment as determined after receipt of the goods and a functionality test, you can reclaim your old equipment within 14 days by e-mailing DELL-uk-retour@trade-in-platform.com and stating your reference number. However, a flat-rate service charge of EUR 20.00 is levied for this to cover any incurred costs.
